Verdant Valor Sanctuary (VVS) is a land-preserving therapeutic garden and structured habilitation program serving Veterans and Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
We are not a production farm. We are a sanctuary garden intentionally designed to support healing, skill-building, and meaningful community engagement through structured horticultural programming in North Carolina.
Through supported employment, day habilitation services, and therapeutic gardening,
VVS creates a safe and purposeful environment where individuals build confidence, develop
practical skills, and strengthen their connection to both community and land.
Our work preserves open space while cultivating personal growth
To deliver compassionate, person-centered habilitation and therapeutic services through structured horticultural programming that empowers adults to
live meaningful, connected lives in their communities.
To be North Carolina’s leading nature-based therapeutic and vocational sanctuary for veterans and adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
We believe growth is cultivated through structure, connection, and contribution.
VVS provides a safe and inclusive environment where Veterans and Adults with IDD participate in meaningful garden work, receive compassionate guidance, and build practical skills that support greater independence and community belonging.
– Healing follows rhythm and routine.
– Confidence grows through responsibility.
– Purpose strengthens through contribution.
At Verdant Valor Sanctuary, people and land are cared for together.
Our model integrates two core components.
Horticultural and Land Stewardship Activities
– Soil preparation, planting, cultivatiing, and seasonal harvest
– Conservation focused land preservation
– Structured garden stewardship and responsibility
Therapeutic and Habilitation Services
– Horticultural therapy
– Structured day rehabilitation programming
– Supported employment pathways
– Mentorship and life skills development
– Community integration opportunities
Every activity is intentional. The garden is the therapeutic setting where growth occurs.
Participants engage in hands-on work within a structured framework that promotes dignity, responsibility, and measurable progress.
Growth
We believe growth requires structure and responsibility. Participants build skills, confidence, and independence through consistent engagement in meaningful horticultural work and guided development.
Reconnection
We create opportunities for individuals to reconnect with nature, with community, and with personal purpose. Hands-on participation reduces isolation and strengthens belonging.
Conservation
We practice active stewardship of land and resources. Conservation at VVS means protecting the natural space, using sustainable horticultural methods, and modeling responsible care for future generations.
Service
Service is purposeful action. We support Veterans, Adults with IDD, and the broader community by creating systems that promote contribution, dignity, and shared responsibility.
